WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR:

--> Chapel Stage Acts - Performance Acts for (2) 90min-120min sets

--> Roaming Troupes of 4-7 characters for (4) days of roaming, 5-6hrs per day

Please note, that this form is ONLY for roaming troupes and stage performance submissions. WE DO NOT HIRE INDIVIDUAL ACTS THROUGH THIS SUBMISSION FORM.

If you are an individual performer and would like to audition to be part of an ensemble cast, we will be posting audition notices to happen in Detroit & Chicago, or by video audition in March. Please follow @novahanproductions on Facebook or @novahan on instagram for notifications as to when that will occur.

Additionally, there is NO FIRE at this festival, and NO AERIAL at The Chapel / in the Forest, unless you submit to bring and set up your own rig. Lastly, for reasons around legal liability, gifts and/or giveaways to audiences CANNOT be EDIBLE.

ABOUT THE CHAPEL:

The Psychadelic Chapel is an intimate performance space, ideal for performance art stage acts. Performance submissions are expected to have fleshed-out aesthetics, with sketches a/o photos of costumes, set pieces and props included in the proposal. Performances that have the greatest success in the Chapel include sections that are scripted/choreographed, as well as sections that are improvised, with room for the audience to participate in the improvisation. Preference is given to submissions that break the 4th wall and are interactive in nature.

The Chapel stage dimensions are approx. 24'W x 16'D.

STORYLINE OF THE FOREST (for ROAMING TROUPES):
*We expect ALL roaming submissions to create characters for this world.

The Forest is one of several places on earth, where the veil to unlimited possibility, to unlimited magic exists. The trees are no ordinary trees, for they are a part of a mystical torus of enchantment, pulling magic from the ethers, spreading it through their roots and disseminating this magic through fruiting bodies of limitless imagination. Anything grows here.

The Forest operates by its own set of rules, housing magic and mythical creatures alike. It is everything the industrious civilizations cropping up around it, are not. It is a place for the untamed, uncontrollable, mysterious, and wild.

But this torus is not a limitless, self feeding cycle. It needs the electricity of life, of collaboration and participation to complete the cycle and keep it alive. But, if one’s heart turned to greed, apathy or ill will, all would vanish under the naked eye.

And then one day, it did just that. It vanished. Seductive technologies stole the youth’s attention and the electrical current of life in The Forest was gone.

Wanderers still feel the magic; they believe the magic lives on in the spirit of The Forest. Magical things evoke when wanderers come together; their energy makes magic rise from the enchanted ground. And it is there for those who are open to see.

ROAMING TROUPES: Please consider the history of your characters. How long have they been in the forest? Who imagined them into existence? What have they witnessed since being there? Are they ancient or new to the forest? How do they keep the spirit of participation and collaboration alive around them? How are guests different and changed from when they first met your characters to after?

Roaming character submissions are expected to have fleshed-out aesthetics, with sketches a/o photos of costumes and props included in the proposal.

NOTE: please don't feel confined to Eurocentric Fairy Tale themes. Unleash your imagination -- we welcome stories from all cultures, as well as stories from non-human life!

Scheduling Notes
